2008 Excellence Award for Quality Improvement
Since 2001, Delmarva Foundation of the District of Columbia (DFDC) has been presenting Excellence Awards for Quality Improvement to hospitals that merit it.
In 2008, Delmarva Foundation of the District of Columbia (DFDC), Medicare’s Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for the District of Columbia, will recognize hospitals for Quality Improvement Excellence. Top performing hospitals in the District can earn the 2008 Excellence Award for Quality Improvement. In order to win, a hospital must meet the following criteria:
- Improve individual performance measure rate to 90 percent or above on the 11 required measures to win the Excellence Award for Quality Improvement.
- Sustain improvement for at least three consecutive quarters.
- If a hospital has 10 or fewer cases in a single quarter, a summary of their cases across three quarters may be substituted.
The goal of Delmarva’s award program is to recognize individual hospital performance improvement on the four national inpatient clinical areas – Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, Surgical Care Improvement and Pneumonia. Any District of Columbia hospital that meets or exceeds the criteria and requirements will be recognized as award winners.

DFDC Hospital Trustee Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize a hospital Trustee for leadership that has inspired the hospital to high quality improvement/ patient safety performance as reflected in the Institute of Medicine’s six aims for improvement – health care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient and equitable (Crossing the Quality Chasm, 2001).
